OSU wins 11th straight, Mis­souri State ral­lies to knock off Tulsa

The No. 24 Ok­la­homa State soft­ball team ex­tended its win­ning streak to 11 games on Tues­day with a 9-1 win over Illi­nois State in Still­wa­ter.

The Cow­girls im­proved to 20-6 by ex­tend­ing their long­est win­ning streak since 2013.

OSU took con­trol early, scor­ing twice in the first in­ning and tack­ing on five more runs in the sec­ond. Vanessa Shippy, who sin­gled and scored in the first, dou­bled in Maddi Hol­comb in the sec­ond. Shippy later grounded out in the fifth in­ning, end­ing her streak of reach­ing base in 16 con­sec­u­tive plate ap­pear­ances. Shippy fin­ished the day 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Lo­gan Simunek (5-0) got the win on the mound, al­low­ing one run on four hits in five in­nings. She struck out three.

The Cow­girls play again Wed­nes­day, with a 5 p.m. start at Cen­tral Arkansas. quick start with four runs in the bot­tom of the first in­ning. Each team scored twice in the sec­ond, leav­ing the Hur­ri­cane with a 6-2 lead. TU would not score again, though, and Mis­souri State (13-10) scored four runs in the fifth to tie the game, then pushed ahead with a run in the sixth.

TU's Ha­ley Meinen was 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs bat­ted in, while Shelby Es­to­cado and Ju­lia Hollingsworth ex­tended their hit­ting streaks to 16 and 15 games, re­spec­tively.

Tulsa is back at home on Wed­nes­day, fac­ing Illi­nois State. First pitch is at 5 p.m.
