OSU wins 11th straight, Missouri State rallies to knock off Tulsa
The No. 24 Oklahoma State softball team extended its winning streak to 11 games on Tuesday with a 9-1 win over Illinois State in Stillwater.
The Cowgirls improved to 20-6 by extending their longest winning streak since 2013.
OSU took control early, scoring twice in the first inning and tacking on five more runs in the second. Vanessa Shippy, who singled and scored in the first, doubled in Maddi Holcomb in the second. Shippy later grounded out in the fifth inning, ending her streak of reaching base in 16 consecutive plate appearances. Shippy finished the day 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Logan Simunek (5-0) got the win on the mound, allowing one run on four hits in five innings. She struck out three.
The Cowgirls play again Wednesday, with a 5 p.m. start at Central Arkansas. quick start with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Each team scored twice in the second, leaving the Hurricane with a 6-2 lead. TU would not score again, though, and Missouri State (13-10) scored four runs in the fifth to tie the game, then pushed ahead with a run in the sixth.
TU's Haley Meinen was 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs batted in, while Shelby Estocado and Julia Hollingsworth extended their hitting streaks to 16 and 15 games, respectively.
Tulsa is back at home on Wednesday, facing Illinois State. First pitch is at 5 p.m.
