American knocks off Hurricane women
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A cold-shooting Tulsa women's basketball team fell 68-52 Friday night at American.
The Golden Hurricane (1-1) only hit 16-of59 shots from the field — 29.4 percent. American (1-0), which led 23-8 after one quarter, shot an even 50 percent (24-of-48).
Maddie Bittle came off the bench and scored 15 points — on 5-for-7 shooting from 3-point range — in her first collegiate game, but she was the only TU player in double figures. She also was the only Hurricane to hit a 3-pointer.
“I think the first quarter was everything,” TU coach Matilda Mossman said. “We couldn't make a shot in the first quarter, which becomes mental and players tend to lose their energy and struggle on defense.”
