Mariners score 4 in 9th, avoid sweep

HOUSTON — José Marmolejos hit a tiebreakin­g, two-run single with two outs in the ninth inning and J.P. Crawford padded the lead with a two-run homer as the Seattle Mariners avoided a sweep with an 8-5 win over the Astros on Wednesday.

GIANTS 7, ROCKIES 4: LaMonte Wade Jr. and Evan Longoria each had two RBIs during a four-run rally in the ninth inning and streaking San Francisco beat host Colorado to become the first team to reach 90 wins this season.

Nathaniel Lowe had three hits, Jose Trevino drove in three and visiting Texas beat Arizona.

TWINS 3, INDIANS 0: Joe Ryan carried a perfect game into the seventh inning of his second big league appearance, helping Minnesota beat host Cleveland.

TIGERS 5, PIRATES 1: Miguel Cabrera and Robbie Grossman each had four hits, and

visiting Detroit avoided a sweep.

RED SOX 2, RAYS 1: Hunter Renfroe hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning and threw out Joey Wendle trying for a triple from deep center field for the final out of the ninth as host Boston beat Tampa Bay.

CUBS 4, REDS 1 (10 inn.): Jason Heyward hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning to give host Chicago the win over Cincinnati, the Cubs’ eighth victory in nine games.

CARDINALS 5, DODGERS 4: Adam Wainwright pitched into the ninth and Yadier Molina homered, helping host St. Louis top Los Angeles.

ORIOLES 9, ROYALS 8: Kelvin Gutierrez hit a game-tying two-run single, two Kansas

City outfielder­s collided on a ball hit by Cedric Mullins, allowing two more runs to score, and Ryan Mountcastl­e

followed with a two-run homer as host Baltimore scored all its runs in the eighth to top

the Royals.

BREWERS 4, PHILLIES 3: Eduardo Escobar hit a tiebreakin­g solo homer in the sixth inning, and host Milwaukee topped Philadelph­ia.

BLUE JAYS 6, YANKEES 3: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his

41st home run and streaking Toronto knocked slumping New York out of the AL’s top wild-card spot.

NATIONALS 4, BRAVES 2: Juan Soto crushed a go-ahead homer in the seventh inning and visiting Washington relied on its bullpen after Sean Nolin’s first-inning ejection

to beat Atlanta.
