Ultimate Diesel Builder's Guide - - Horse Power -

There is a lot of bench racing banter between the advocates of 12- and 24-valve Cummins heads. Generally speaking, according to Knisely and other sources, a stock 24-valve head will deliver more overall flow than a stock 12-valve, but once porting work starts, things can equalize, and it's then down to the mojo of the porter. Airflow numbers are hotly debated but don't always have a direct horsepower equivalency. More is better, of course, but how that extra air is utilized is key.
