DENNIS HAS A PROTÉGÉ!

- By Sophie Dweck / With reporting by Taylor Ferber, Nicole Pajer & Stephanie Webber

Before their 2001 divorce, Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan made a pact: Their son, Jack, now 26, would grow up out of the spotlight. “We didn’t let him be a child actor,” Quaid reveals to Us. “I wanted him to have his childhood and life experiences apart from being on a set.”

Still, Jack found his way to Hollywood — all on his own. “I told him, ‘My agent wants to represent you!’ ” recalls the 64-year-old. “He said, ‘No, Dad. By myself.’ Which is what he did.” And now that the young star has a slew of experiences under his belt — he’s starred in The Hunger Games, Vinyl and Logan Lucky — his dad is eager to collaborate. “I’ve always wanted to work with him, and we’ve even talked about it a little bit,” explains the Parent Trap alum, who also has 10-year-old twins, Thomas and Zoe (with ex-wife Kimberly Buffington). “I said, ‘Son, how about a little help over here?’ But he’s making a screen persona of his own. That’s what he’s building, and I understand that. I’m really proud of him.”

?? ?? “It’s very obvious he has a lot of talent and drive,” Dennis (right, with Jack in 2015) raves to Us.
