Ryan & Eva: Inside Their Private World

One of Hollywood’s most tightlipped duos, Mendes and Gosling prove true love conquers all

US Weekly - - INSIDE -

Ryan Gosling may have walked on the moon in First Man, but his longtime love, Eva Mendes, keeps him grounded. In a recent interview, the actor shared how his dizzying NASA-like training earned him a concussion and left him rattling off nonsense at their LA home: “I was hell-bent on this idea that there were people in doughnut stores all around the world that were trying to charm their way into getting free doughnuts.” Alarmed, his wife sprung into action. “She was like... ‘I think you might

have brain damage. I think you should go to the hospital,’” he recalled, noting, “She was so patient.”

It’s just one example of the strength of their seven-year romance, one lived almost entirely out

of the spotlight. While other Hollywood couples parade their love around, Gosling, 37, and Mendes, 44, have enjoyed keeping an incredibly low profile. (They haven’t walked a red carpet together since

2013!) “They’re extremely private,” says a source close to the couple. “You’re not going to see them out on the town or hanging with other celebrities very often. Ryan wants to keep his private life out of the public’s reach.” But behind closed doors, the parents of daughters Esmeralda, 4, and Amada, 2, are devoted to each other. Adds a second source, “Ryan is completely infatuated with Eva. His main goal is to make her happy.”

WHY THEY WORK

Since meeting on the set of 2012’s The Place Beyond

the Pines, the duo have chosen not to mix business with pleasure. “It’s very unlikely you’ll see Ryan backstage at an event or supporting Eva from the sidelines,” says a Mendes pal. “In that way, their relationship is mysterious and unconventional.”

They have their reasons. “Eva doesn’t want her love life to overshadow her accomplishments,” says the pal. “She’s independent and doesn’t want their relationship to be a talking point.” Especially as Oscar frontrunner Gosling’s star continues to rise. “Her career has stalled a bit,” the first source says of the actress-designer. “But Ryan is extremely supportive. They have their issues like any couple, but they’re devoted and always work through it.”

Everything they do is for the sake of their girls. With no nanny or outside help, “it can be difficult for them at times, but having young daughters is a blessing,” says the first insider. “It’s only the two of them, with extended family filling in for babysitting.”

And Gosling wouldn’t have it any other way. “Eva’s the dream mother,” he’s gushed, “and they’re dream babies, and it’s like a dream that I’m having right now.”

Asked what one quality he looks for in a woman,Gosling (in March 2013) said, “That she’s Eva Mendes.”

After visiting him on the set of First Man, Gosling’s kids “think I’m an astronaut now,” he said.
