GWEN & BLAKE’S BABY NEWS
After years of heartbreak, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton take a major step to start a family
After trying unsuccessfully to start a family, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have taken a huge step toward making their baby dreams come true.
Blake Shelton never knew he could be so happy. First, right on the heels of his devastating split from wife Miranda Lambert, he started a romance with singer Gwen Stefani while shooting The Voice more than three years ago. Then came an even bigger surprise: Blake fell in love with Gwen’s three sons. “I never saw that coming, but it’s so fun. They are [great kids],” the country singer confessed to Today last spring. He had resigned himself to thinking that having kids “wasn’t meant to be… and then all of a sudden it happens, one way or another.”
Now it’s happening again. After years of heartbreak as they unsuccessfully tried to start a family,
Blake, 42, and Gwen, 49, have decided to turn to a surrogate to have a baby, Us has exclusively learned. “They are determined to have a child together and are in the final stages of choosing the woman who will carry their baby,” says an insider. “It’s extremely important to Gwen that she give Blake a biological child, and Blake is so excited,” says the insider. Even though he’s grateful for Gwen’s sons, “he wants his own child too.”
She’ll do anything to make that dream a reality. “Gwen really wanted to carry their baby,” says the insider, but after multiple unsuccessful IVF attempts over the past few years,
“it took a bit for her to accept that it wasn’t going to happen.” Still, she hasn’t given up all hope: Despite plans to move forward with a surrogate, she’s still trying to conceive naturally as well. “Gwen’s been joking
with friends,” the insider says, “that she and Blake could end up with two babies around the same time!”
And they could have a pair of wedding rings to match. Gwen and
Blake have discussed getting married, and “a wedding could happen around the time of a baby’s arrival,” notes the insider. Getting hitched won’t actually change much: Blake has lived with Gwen in her Hollywood Hills home for the past 18 months, and he’s become a second father to Kingston, 12, Zuma, 10, and Apollo, 4. (The boys’ dad, Gwen’s exhusband Gavin Rossdale, 53, approves. “Gavin has no issues with Blake,” says the insider.) “Gwen and Blake are very much a family already,” notes the insider.
Gwen, Blake and her boys love to spend time together at The Voice coach’s sprawling Oklahoma ranch, where they explore, hike and hunt. “Blake can relate to the boys and get dirty with them,” says the insider. On weekends when they’re all together in LA, they’ll go to church and often visit Gwen’s parents. “Blake also goes to the boys’ sports activities and school assemblies and is known to the staff and teachers,” says the insider. In recent weeks, “he’s even dropped off forgotten lunches,” the insider adds. “Gwen just is so in awe of the love Blake has, not only for her but for the boys.” They both have more love to give.
“Gwen just wants the baby to be healthy, of course — but after three boys, she is now hoping for a girl,” says the insider. They know there are no guarantees, though Gwen has made a point of staying positive. “I don’t know the future,” she told Good
Morning America in June. “All I know is that I have a lot to look forward to.”
“Gwen is everything Blake wants,” says an insider. “With her, he has the relationship and family life that he’d always dreamed of.”
