MILEY’S SWEET SURPRISE WEDDING
Surprise, they’re hitched! All the details on Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s low-key nuptials, from the fried chicken to the $9,000 dress.
The pop star and fiancé Liam Hemsworth said “I do” after nearly a decade together. We’ve got the details.
Once upon a time, Miley Cyrus was known for her outrageous antics. Whether riding a wrecking ball naked or twerking with her tongue out, her personal brand was loud and aggressive. So nobody could’ve guessed that when she celebrated the biggest day of her life — her wedding to longtime love Liam Hemsworth — she would’ve done it so quietly.
“Miley and Liam shocked everyone by tying the knot at their Tennessee mansion two days before Christmas,” an insider close to the couple tells Us. “The ceremony was strictly for immediate family and close friends,” adds a Cyrus family source.
Shock is an understatement. On Dec. 24, a photo surfaced on Instagram of Liam and his big brother, actor Chris, doing shots with “Mr.” and “Mrs.” balloons floating in the background, along with another picture of a tux-clad Liam, 28, and white-gownwearing Miley, 26, about to cut a cake. Soon after, the couple posted their own wedding photos with little fanfare, and Miley’s big sister, Brandi, wrote, “Secret’s out! So happy for you guys. Been a long time comin’!”
MEANT TO BE
She’s not kidding. Miley and Liam met on the set of The Last Song in 2009 and started dating in 2010. The next few years brought breakups and makeups galore — including one broken engagement in 2013 — and finally their reengagement in 2016. (She
wore the same 3.5-carat custom Neil Lane sparkler Liam had given her the first time.)
And while Miley was initially happy to have an endless engagement, the events of 2018 changed her mind. After the horror of the Malibu fires in November — which destroyed the couple’s house — she saw a new side to her fiancé, even after nine years of knowing him. “Liam caring for animals and helping others during the fire sealed the deal,” says the Cyrus source. “Their love exploded after that,” and they filed for a marriage license on Dec. 18, a Williamson County, Tenn., clerk confirms to Us.
THE DOWN-HOME DETAILS
Once they decided to tie the knot, they couldn’t wait to do it — their way. The wedding was an appropriately laid-back affair for the low-key couple, with one major exception: the bride’s nearly $9,000 gown. She wore an ivory silk-satin Vivienne Westwood design accessorized with small dangle earrings by Sydney Evan and Jacquie Aiche and strappy satin Cult of Coquette heels. (Her husband put a personal touch on his getup, as well: “He wore clean, comfy white sneakers the whole time,” the Miley and Liam insider shares.)
Everything else was pure relaxed fun, from the Vroom Vroom
Balloons to the catering from Big Shake’s Hot Chicken to the “Uptown Funk” dance party. “They danced, drank tequila shots and ate fried chicken and catfish,” says the insider. “It was just what Miley envisioned,” adds another source.
And even though the wedding was exactly as Miley had always dreamed, what she’s really excited for is the marriage. “Miley and Liam can’t wait to start the next chapter of their lives,” says the insider. “They’re husband and wife, and they’re going to rebuild their Malibu dream home. Life couldn’t get any better.”
“This is probably our one-millionth kiss,” Miley said. But one of their first as husbandand wife!
Miley and her parents, Tish and Billy Ray, are “super close,” an insider close to the couple says. Liam captioned this sweet shot of the newlyweds with a simple “My love.”“They’re a perfect match,” a source close to the Cyruses tells Us. “The families love each other and get along well.”
