Alex Rodriguez faces cheating allegations after he proposes to longtime love Jennifer Lopez.

Rodriguez popped the question to girlfriend of two years Jennifer Lopez while the pair were on vacation at idyllic Baker’s Bay in the Bahamas on March 9. Both the World of Dance judge, 49, and the former New York Yankee, 43, announced the happy news on Instagram that day with matching posts showing off her massive emerald-cut sparkler, which is worth an estimated $1.4 million. “She didn’t know he was planning on proposing,” a source tells Us. “They’ve talked about marriage and have always planned to spend the rest of their lives together, but they were so happy with exactly how things were, they weren’t sure if they wanted to go down that road. It’s almost like they didn’t want to jinx it.”
They didn’t — but a dark cloud quickly formed over the happy couple anyway. A day after the romantic proposal (on his Instagram story,
Alex showed off a hotel bed with rose petals spelling out “I U”),
Jose Canseco went on a Twitter tirade claiming that A-Rod has been unfaithful to his newly minted fiancée. “Little does she know that he is cheating on her with my ex-wife Jessica poor girl she has no idea who he really is,” wrote the former Oakland A’s slugger, 54. He continued: “Alex Rodriguez stop being a piece of s**t stop cheating on Jennifer Lopez. Alex Rodriguez I challenge you to a boxing match or an MMA match anytime you want.”
What did the “Dinero” singer — who’s fallen for plenty of Mr. Wrongs in her past (see box, right) — make of the shocking public allegations? Jennifer “trusts Alex and his love. They’re practically inseparable,” says a source close to the mom of two. “Jose Canseco has an axe to grind, but Jennifer doesn’t hear the noise.” Instead, her focus remains squarely on continuing to blend her family (she shares twins Max and Emme, 11, with Marc Anthony) with Alex’s (he’s dad to Ella, 10, and Natasha, 14, with ex Cynthia Scurtis) and, now, on planning her big day with the man her instincts tell her is, at last, her Mr. Right. “Marriage is something that became important both to them and to their kids,” says the source. “They know they want to make this commitment to forever together.”
