It’s the End of the World as We Know It

Strap in for the wild ride of Now Apocalypse

-

Let’s talk about sex and the end of the world, baby! Starz’s coming-of-age comedy Now Apocalypse (March 10, 9 p.m.), executive-produced by Steven Soderbergh, follows Ulysses (Victorious alum Avan Jogia) and his stoner friends as they navigate life in LA. Tyler Posey plays Ulysses’ love interest, and Beau Mirchoff and Kelli Berglund are his BFFs. Avan, 27, caught up with Us at the halfhour series’ LA premiere.

How’d you land the show?

[Writer] Gregg Araki sent me the script; he’s a gay icon and a visionary. He wrote this character with me in mind. I read it, and I just loved it. It’s unlike anything else.

Tell us a bit about the premise.

Ulysses and his friends smoke weed and then look for love on Grindr and Tinder; they’re so paranoid, they become afraid there might be aliens in the dating scene.

The amount of sex in the show has gotten a lot of attention.

It’s really sexual, but it’s joyous. It’s not dark. I find a lot of shows are looking for gritty sex scenes. This is a celebration of sexuality, not some guilt- or pain-based thing we’ve seen on TV.
