Sharp Stick

No matter your feelings about Lena Dunham, at least she does things her way. Her latest project focuses on a virgin babysitter (Kristine Froseth) who has a sexual awakening courtesy of her married employer (Jon Bernthal). Dunham’s provocative gambits are all here; her wit... not as much.

Am I OK?

Think Booksmart for millennials: Lucy (Dakota Johnson) confides to her best friend, Jane (Sonoya Mizuno), that she’s gay just as Jane prepares to move abroad. But this low-key charmer isn’t so much about a woman discovering her sexuality as it is about being comfortable with yourself.

The Princess

Hold on — another film about Princess Diana?! Here, her reign is chronicled exclusively via archival British media footage. Many of the themes are familiar — the relentless paparazzi and aloof royal family — and yet her evolution as a cultural icon remains a wonder to behold.

Jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy

Back in 2001, director Coodie Simmons had the foresight to start documenting an ambitious Chicago rapper named Kanye West. That footage finally comes to light in a riveting portrait that humanizes a larger-thanlife icon. In Part 1, we see him hustle for a record deal and get a pep talk from his beloved mom.
