The Queen Stands By Andrew
The monarch refuses to abandon her troubled son in his time of need
Royal watchers were shocked to see Her Majesty escorted by her son Prince Andrew at the March 29 memorial service held for Prince Philip at Westminster Abbey. (Prince Philip died at age 99 last April.) “Charles thinks Andrew is a disgrace, and William and Kate aren’t fans either,” says an insider. In early March, Andrew settled a civil suit— reportedly with financial help from the queen — filed against him by Virginia Giuffre, who claimed he sexually abused her when she was 17 (he denies the claims).
But during what could be the queen’s final days, the resilient and brave monarch is displaying unwavering loyalty. “Andrew has sworn on his life that he’s innocent and Elizabeth is taking his word for it,” says the insider. Adds a source: “The queen will always love Andrew, and she was never going to wash her hands of him.”
