Why He’s Quitting

-

Fans were shocked in early April when Jim Carrey revealed he was “fairly serious” about retiring from acting. “I really like my quiet life,” Carrey,

60, told Access Hollywood, adding that he wanted to spend more time focusing on his family and his artwork. But an insider tells Us there’s more to the star’s decision than he’s letting on. “Jim is prone to depressive episodes,” says the insider, adding that the Ace Ventura actor went into a “very dark place” when he was sued in 2016 by the family of his late ex-girlfriend, makeup artist Cathriona White, who committed suicide in 2015. (The case — in which White’s family alleged Carrey had given her three STDs and provided her with the painkillers she used to kill herself — was dismissed.) “The lawsuit took a toll on him,” confides the insider. “He doesn’t want to risk a similar situation.”
