HIS TIME TO SHINE

Mod Sun dishes the details on his and Machine Gun Kelly’s directorial debut, Good Mourning

-

He’s already cemented his place in music, and now Mod Sun is entering the film industry with Good Mourning (in theaters and on-demand May 20), a stoner comedy he co-wrote and co-directed with collaborator Machine Gun Kelly. The singer sounds off below.

Q: Tell Us about Good Mourning.

It takes place during one day in L.A. and follows famous actor London Clash. He’s offered a chance to land his dream job to play Batman while simultaneously receiving a potential breakup text from his girlfriend. It deals with the human condition of how we create worst-case scenarios in our heads because we don’t have all the information.

Q: What inspired this film?

It’s inspired by true events. When Kells [MGK] started his relationship with Megan [Fox], she left the country to work on a film. She had terrible service where she was, [but] would text whenever she could. He’d misread these cryptic texts, assume the worst and ask [me] and our friends if we thought she was breaking up with him. We started writing the script to keep his mind off his relationship.

Q: Who surprised you the most from the star-studded cast?

Pete [Davidson] and Whitney [Cummings]. They… showed me that the script just gets you to the set. The magic happens when you improvise. [They’d] stretch every scene and give completely new takes every time. It was amazing watching people who have mastered their craft.
