Pride & Joy

-

When Queer Eye for the Straight Guy debuted in 2003, Carson Kressley had no idea of the impact the show would have. “None of us thought we were going to be role models for the [LGBTQ+ community],” admits the TV personality and fashion designer, 52. “Reality TV is a very intimate medium… [and] it wound up being way more powerful than we realized.” Here, Kressley tells Us more.

June is Pride Month. What does this time of year mean to you?

CK It’s a great way to remember that you are perfect the way you are and that you’re worthy of being celebrated. I think it’s something we need to tell our young people.

How will you be celebrating?

CK In so many various ways. I’m doing big Pride events… in lots of different [cities]. That’s going to be a lot of fun. I feel like many, many margaritas will be involved.

What will you be wearing?

CK It’s that one [time of year] when there’s no fashion rules and [you can wear] whatever makes you feel fun, fabulous and proud. For me, it’s a leather onesie.

Any plans for Queer Eye’s upcoming 20th anniversary?

CK We just started thinking about that. We’d love to do something to celebrate that milestone. We’ll see what that is!

?? ?? “The power is really just in being yourself,” Kressley says of his success.
