LIVING LIKE A KING

From tea parties with the queen to household chores, insiders reveal exclusive details about Prince George’s secret world

- BY JAIME HARKIN

Ahead of Prince George’s 9th birthday, insiders shed insight into his ultraprivate world. Plus, how Prince William and Duchess

Kate ensure their kids have a normal childhood.

It’s good to be Prince George. After spending early June attending back-to-back Platinum Jubilee events alongside his parents, Prince William and Duchess Kate, and younger siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, the soonto-be 9-year-old is gearing up for a European family vacation and a birthday celebration fit for, well, royalty. “He’s having an outdoor music-festival-themed party with all his friends and family,” an insider tells Us of George, whose birthday is July 22. “There will be a dance floor, candy stations and a food truck, along with tents in the garden for the kids to sleep in.”

As William and

Kate’s firstborn, George is third in line to the throne (after his father and his grandfather, Prince Charles, 73).

And by all accounts, he’s handling his status as the future king of England remarkably well. “George is a very grounded, downto-earth little boy,” says a second insider, noting that William and Kate, both 40 — along with George’s great-grandmother, 96-year-old Queen Elizabeth II — have been preparing him for what lies ahead since birth. “He’s well aware of what awaits him,” notes the second insider, “and he sees it

as a huge honor.”

ROYAL CHOPS

Lucky for George, he’s a natural-born leader.

“He’s super popular and other children warm to him easily,” says the first insider. George is often the first to suggest team sports and activities, like football, swimming, rugby and cricket. And he takes his role as the oldest child very seriously. Adds the insider:

“He’s very protective of Charlotte and Louis.”

The children will all be starting a new school in the fall when the Cambridge clan settles into their new home in Windsor. (A source previously told Us they’re leaving Kensington Palace in order to be closer to the queen and Kate’s family.)

A third insider says

George is already helping Charlotte, 7, and Louis, 4, with the transition. “Charlotte is a little scared about switching schools, but George has reassured her that everything will be fine and has promised to meet her and Louis for lunch on their first day,” the insider says. “That’s George for you.”

JUST LIKE DAD

He’s a real chip off the old block. “William and George are like two peas in a pod,” shares the first insider. They love watching sports together and share the same sense of humor (and taste in food — roasted chicken with Yorkshire pudding tops their list). According to the insider, William even took George on a road trip recently to the University of St. Andrews “to show him where he first met Kate — and they stayed overnight!”

While the queen loves all her great-grandchildren, a third source says that George is “secretly” her favorite. “She’s really taken George under her wing. They’re having a tea party at Windsor Castle for his birthday, just the two of them,” reveals the insider. “The queen has even ordered him a few gifts, including a fishing rod and an oil painting set.”

GUIDING LIGHTS

William and Kate are doing their best to give George a normal childhood. “They have no-nonsense rules at home that all the kids must follow,” says a fourth insider. “If George and Charlotte make a mess, they clean up after themselves, and TV is limited to four hours a week.”

They’re also gently planting the seeds for what’s to come. “William is paving the way for George,” says the insider, “and teaching him about making a positive difference in the world and how to be the best version of himself.”
