White Sox did their part in pair of Houston titles

- By Greg Boeck

The Chicago White Sox are doing their best to spoil the Houston Astros’ 4 rst trip to the World Series. A decade ago, they played a role in the town’s celebration of two championships.

The Houston Rockets produced back- to-back NBA titles in 1994 and 1995 — with Michael Jordan a member of the White Sox organization, on a 17month sabbatical from the Chicago Bulls during his 4 rst retirement.

He was playing minor league baseball for the White Sox in June 1994 when the Rockets won their 4 rst title in a memorable seven- game series against the New York Knicks.

The Rockets’ reign ended in 1996, however. In his 4 rst full season back, Jordan led the Bulls to a league- record 72- 10 mark and the 4 rst of another three- peat.
