No. 2 Syracuse subdues Rutgers
Curry, Rivers carry Duke
Rutgers had knocked off two top- 10 teams at home this season but did not have enough to topple No. 2 Syracuse on Sunday, as the Orange pulled away to a 74- 64 win behind a careerbest 21 points from C. J. Fair.
Syracuse’s Scoop Jardine scored 17 points, including a clutch threepoint shot with 1: 11 remaining to blunt a Scarlet Knights rally.
Syracuse ( 27- 1, 14- 1 Big East) has a 2 ½ - game conference lead on Marquette and Notre Dame and ran its winning streak against Rutgers to 12 games.
Gilvydas Biruta matched a career high with 21 points for the Scarlet Knights ( 12- 15, 4- 10).
No. 4 Duke 75, Boston College 50: The backcourt tandem of Seth Curry and Austin Rivers teamed for 34 points to lead the Blue Devils ( 23- 4, 10- 2 Atlantic Coast) to a road victory.
Duke hit 10 of 22 three- point attempts and outrebounded the Eagles 42- 20, with Miles Plumlee grabbing 10.
Ryan Anderson topped Boston College ( 8- 19, 3- 10) with 21 points.
No. 8 Michigan State 76, Purdue 62: The Spartans grabbed a one- game lead in the Big Ten by capping a seasonseries sweep of the Boilermakers with a victory in West Lafayette, Ind.
Draymond Green had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Austin Thornton contributed a career- best 17 points for Michigan State ( 22- 5, 11- 3), which trailed 38- 35 at the half.
Purdue ( 17- 10, 7- 7) played without starters Kelsey Barlow and D. J. Byrd, who were suspended after an incident outside a bar Friday. Robbie Hummel scored 24 points for the Boilermakers, whose threegame winning streak ended.
No. 17 Wisconsin 65, Penn State 55: Josh Gasser scored 15 points and the Badgers ( 20- 7, 9- 5 Big Ten) made 11 threepoint shots at home to turn back the Nittany Lions ( 12- 16, 4- 11).
Jared Berggren added 13 points and hit two longrange shots to derail Penn State’s second- half rally.
Tim Frazier scored 20 to lead the Nittany Lions, who are 0- 8 in conference road games.
Iowa 78, No. 20 Indiana 66: Matt Gatens scored 30 points and Melsahn Basabe came off the bench to add 13 as the Hawkeyes ( 14- 13, 6- 8 Big Ten) earned the home upset.
Iowa hit nine of 18 threepoint attempts.
Cody Zeller led the Hoosiers ( 20- 7, 8- 7) with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Vanderbilt 61, Georgia 52: The Commodores remained one game behind second- place Florida in the Southeastern Conference with a road victory built around 28 points from John Jenkins.
Jeffrey Taylor added 13 points for Vanderbilt ( 19- 8, 8- 4), while Gerald Robinson paced the Bulldogs ( 12- 14, 3- 9) with 19 points.

Tianna Hawkins’ put- back basket with 14 seconds remaining lifted No. 7 Maryland to a 63- 61 home victory vs. No. 5 Duke, ending the Blue Devils’ 16- game ACC winning streak. Hawkins totaled 19 points and nine offensive rebounds for the Terrapins ( 23- 4, 10- 4), who beat a top- five team for the first time since 2009. Alyssa Thomas blocked Haley Peter’s threepoint attempt with a second left to preserve the win. Elizabeth Williams led the Blue Devils ( 22- 4, 13- 1) with 19 points. . . . No. 6 Miami ( 24- 3, 13- 1 ACC ) scored 21 points off 24 Florida State turnovers to win 67- 60 at home behind 24 points from Riquana Williams. Shenise Johnson added 23 points. . . .
