Backlogged disability claims dishonor war veterans

-

More than 851,000 veterans are waiting for the Department of Veterans Affairs to address their disability claims. The majority have been waiting for more than 125 days.

It has been a mess dealing with the VA for decades! The saying was “Delay, deny and hope you die!” The delays are not the fault of any one administration.

You just have to keep fighting, which I’ve never had a problem doing. Vets, just keep fighting for your rights!

My husband and I have been waiting for more than two- and- ahalf years for his claim to be processed. Mistakes in the process have been made over and over again!

It’s disgusting how this system has failed us and so many others like us.

Vicki LeClerc

My claim has been in the system for almost three years. It’s not the president’s fault. It’s the volume of claims and an outdated system. The VA in Houston sees many veterans a day. I’m there frequently. It was this way before President Obama even thought about running for office, so don’t blame him.

My father is a Vietnam War veteran who retired in the 1990s. He waited for a long time, too. It has been that way for years. This didn’t happen overnight.

Why can’t the VA employ 100,000 of the unemployed as clerical help? That would help free other VA workers to assist with the backlog.

Chuck Jordan

Three years is exactly how long my service- connected disability claim took to be finalized. If the VA can speed up the process, great.

Susan Scherer Jones

I had my claim done in under two years. When you get to the one- to one- and- a- half year mark, go to your congressman’s office. He can push your claim through. We got my son- in- law’s claim done in nine months. I hope this advice helps others.
