Raiders gamble and win MISTAKE DOOMS PRESCOTT’S ATTEMPT TO RALLY COWBOYS

- Nate Davis

Winners and losers from Sunday’s Week 1 action: WINNERS

Jack Del Rio: The Oakland Raiders coach either forgot it’s no longer preseason, or he’s one gutsy dude. Trailing 34- 33 in New Orleans after a Derek Carr TD pass, Del Rio went for two and the win ... and Carr converted with a pass to Michael Crabtree for a 35- 34 victory against the Saints.

Jameis Winston: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback opened his second season with four TD passes, one short of his career best, as the Bucs beat the Falcons in Atlanta 31- 24.

Carson Wentz: The Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback passed for 278 yards and two TDs in his first start, a 29- 10 victory against the Cleveland Browns.

Jimmy Garoppolo: In his first NFL start, without tight end Rob Gronkowski to help him, quarterback Tom Brady’s fourweek replacement was an efficient 24- for- 33 for 264 yards and a TD. More important, by upset- ting the Arizona Cardinals, the New England Patriots find themselves alone in first place in the AFC East.

LOSERS

Buffalo Bills offense: Seven points. Eleven first downs. And just 160 yards. Not good.

Exotic Smashmouth: That’s the term new Tennessee Titans coach Mike Mularkey uses to describe his offense, and it was mostly smashed by the Minnesota Vikings. Tennessee rushed for 64 yards and scored as many TDs ( two) as the Vikings defense did.
