TRACKING PITT AND JOLIE’S 12- YEAR RELATIONSHIP
Brangelina is over. Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt. The couple has been one of the most famous Hollywood pairings since they got together in 2004. We revisit a few of their milestones over the years.
SUMMER 2004: ‘ Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ starts filming. Brad and Angelina are still just Brad and Angelina. Pitt is married to Jennifer Aniston.
JANUARY 2005: After months of rumors that Pitt and Jolie are together, Aniston and Pitt announce their separation after five years of marriage.
MARCH 2005: Aniston files for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
APRIL 2005: Pitt and Jolie unofficially confirm their relationship when they are photographed on a beach in Kenya with Jolie’s son, Maddox.
JULY 2005: Pitt and Jolie do a photo shoot with a few kids ( none of them their own) looking happy and family- like for a W magazine spread called “Domestic Bliss.” Aniston voices her disapproval, saying there’s a “sensitivity chip” missing as their divorce has not yet been finalized.
JULY 6, 2005: Jolie adopts 6- month- old Zahara Marley, her third child, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
OCTOBER 2005: Pitt and Aniston’s divorce is finalized.
JAN. 11, 2006: Jolie confirms she’s pregnant.
JAN. 19, 2006: The kids’ last names become Jolie- Pitt, as Pitt seeks to adopt Jolie’s children.
MAY 27, 2006: Shiloh Nouvel, the couple’s first biological child, is born in Namibia.
MARCH 15, 2007: Brangelina adopt Pax Thien, 3, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
MAY 2008: The couple announce they’re expecting twins.
JULY 12, 2008: Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline are born in Nice, France.
APRIL 13, 2012: Brangelina gets engaged.
MAY 2013: Jolie reveals in an op- ed in ‘ The New York Times’ that she had a double mastectomy. “I am fortunate to have a partner, Brad Pitt, who is so loving and supportive,” she wrote. “So to anyone who has a wife or girlfriend going through this, know that you are a very important part of the transition.”
AUGUST 2014: The couple ties the knot in France.
MARCH 2015: Jolie reveals in another candid essay that she had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed in surgery. In the essay she writes that Pitt flew to see her immediately. “I called my husband in France, who was on a plane within hours. The beautiful thing about such moments in life is that there is so much clarity. You know what you live for and what matters. It is polarizing, and it is peaceful.”
NOVEMBER 2015: Jolie- directed ‘ By the Sea,’ a film about a married couple on the rocks and co- starring Pitt, opens in theaters. On the press tour for the film, the pair claim that it is not autobiographical. “Brad and I have our issues, but if the characters’ were even remotely close to our problems we couldn’t have made the film,” Jolie told ‘ Vogue’ of the film.
SEPTEMBER 19, 2016: Jolie files for divorce from Pitt.
