Streaking Indians clicking in all facets

- Jesse Yomtov @JesseYomtov

They entered Tuesday with a 12-game winning streak — and might eventually run away with the American League’s best record.

Just how have the Cleveland Indians forged this timely streak, which has swollen their AL Central lead to 10 games and left them three games behind the Houston Astros for the top seed in the AL?

Jose Ramirez has 14 extrabase hits during the 12-game streak — eight doubles, one triple and five home runs. He is fifth in the AL in on-base plus slugging percentage (.921) and Wins Above Replacement (5.2) among position players.

The Indians have four shutouts in 12 games. The Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers and San Francisco Giants each have three for the season.

The Indians have scored 10 or more runs four times during the winning streak. The San Diego Padres have done so three times this season. Cleveland ranks fourth in the AL with 685 runs and second in on-base percentage (.338).

Starter Carlos Carrasco has 16 strikeouts with no walks in two starts, surrendering one run. Carrasco

ranks fourth in the AL with a 1.11 WHIP (walks plus hits allowed per inning pitched) and sixth with 10.0 strikeouts per nine innings.

Reliever Andrew Miller and second baseman Jason Kipnis have not played during the run, both having been lost to injury in the days before the streak began. No matter. Invaluable Ramirez shifted to second base and Yandy Diaz — signed as a minor league free agent four years ago — stepped in at third and has batted .448 during the streak. Meanwhile, the bullpen ranks No. 1 in the AL with a 2.98 ERA, as July trade acquisition Joe Smith notched two holds and a save in the streak.
