I changed my mind on late-term abortion
I have a great appreciation to Kate Carson for sharing her story in her column, “I had a later abortion because I couldn’t give my baby girl both life and peace,” and bringing awareness to the issue of late-term abortions. I had never imagined that there were rational, humane and necessary reasons for these procedures. I stood on a pro-choice platform guided by a vague intuition of its progressiveness, putting the late-term question on the side.
As a mom, I’m so proud of Carson for making her baby’s story known. I had not before considered that there are circumstances in which life could be a cruelness to protect unborn children from. Hearing Carson’s family story, I understand now that a “choice” can be so obvious it isn’t a choice at all, and what I really mean to support are the options. From here on out, I will tell people I’m pro-option and explain, through Carson’s story, why and how this stance is different, and why it needs protection. Genevieve Lane

USA TODAY OPINION
I’m pro-life, but I’m not an all-ornothing person. I believe in the right to choose, particularly in extreme cases. To outlaw abortions entirely could result in two deaths, at times. Most women aren’t using late-term abortions as birth control — and if conservatives are so concerned about that, maybe regulations should be put in place to prevent that. Stephanie B Gobler
The fact remains that a person was killed because their health and life would be difficult. You have no idea if a medical breakthrough could have saved the child, or if the diagnosis was wrong, or if a miracle would happen.

It is simple: If you don’t approve of abortion, don’t have one. If you don’t approve of abortion, support the availability of birth control and comprehensive sex education. Most of all, mind your own business. Dave Chandler
