Chargers’ Rivers due for big Oakland finale

- Gavino Borquez

No other quarterback has enjoyed more success at RingCentral Coliseum in Oakland, California, than Philip Rivers.

The Chargers’ quarterback has won more games than any other opposing quarterbacks the Raiders have faced on their home turf ( nine), has thrown the most touchdown passes ( 24) and passed for the most yards ( 3,489).

A season ago, Rivers took care of business at the Coliseum as he went 18 of 26 passing for 223 yards and two TDs in the Bolts’ 20- 6 victory over the Raiders.

Thursday’s game will mark the last time Rivers will play the Raiders in Oakland, as they’re set to move to Las Vegas in 2020, and he will be looking to leave his mark in a significant way.

Rivers is leading the NFL in passing yards with 2,609. The Chargers rank No. 6 in passing yards per game ( 281.3) and will be facing a Raiders defense that’s last in passing yards allowed per game ( 297.5).

Ball security was a big issue for Rivers early on, but it has been a lot better for the veteran quarterback. Not to mention, Oakland has forced only seven takeaways this season.

Rivers is looking forward to playing in Oakland.

“It’ll be a heck of an atmosphere. It’ll be cranked up pretty good. The aura of what that place has been over the years will be alive,” Rivers said.
