Oscars stung again on diversity
Five years after #OscarsSoWhite launched a call for change in the movie industry, Monday’s Academy Award nominations are being criticized for reflecting a lack of diversity. “Harriet” star Cynthia Erivo, who is black, is the sole person of color among nominees in the acting categories. All five nominees for best director are men.
Awards prognosticator Tom O’Neil says this year’s crop provides proof of a “continuing crisis” within the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
