Os­cars stung again on di­ver­sity

Five years af­ter #Os­carsSoWhit­e launched a call for change in the movie in­dus­try, Mon­day’s Academy Award nom­i­na­tions are be­ing crit­i­cized for re­flect­ing a lack of di­ver­sity. “Har­riet” star Cyn­thia Erivo, who is black, is the sole per­son of color among nom­i­nees in the act­ing cat­e­gories. All five nom­i­nees for best di­rec­tor are men.

Awards prog­nos­ti­ca­tor Tom O’Neil says this year’s crop pro­vides proof of a “con­tin­u­ing cri­sis” within the Academy of Mo­tion Pic­ture Arts and Sciences.
