- Mike Snider

The latest repercussion from the coronavirus pandemic? A delay in the arrival of the rebooted Intellivision video game console.

The Intellivision Amico, the modern reboot of the iconic Intellivision video game console, which had been scheduled to hit the market Oct. 10, now is scheduled for release April 15, 2021. Because of production challenges during the pandemic, the company decided to push back the system’s launch.

Not to do so would have compromised quality assurance, said Intellivision Entertainment CEO Tommy Tallarico during an online event

Wednesday.

Also revealed during the event were updates on new games coming to the system including Earthworm Jim 4, edutainment title Sesame Workshop, and a game based on Mattel Hot Wheels.

New action of other games in the works included reimagined versions of classic titles such as Missile Command, Breakout and Battle Tanks.

GameStop is taking preorders for the Intellivision Amico ($ 249.99 for the black or white models or $ 299.99 for the GameStop Limited edition purple version; both come with two controllers).

Astrosmash, Shark! Shark!, Skiing, Cornhole and dice game Farkle are included with the system.

Another video game system reboot, the Atari VCS ($ 389.99, includes a wireless joystick and a controller), is scheduled for a fall 2020 release.

In addition to a library of more than 100 classic Atari games, the VCS also works like a mini- PC and can be used to run apps, too.
