Jags secure top draft pick
The Jaguars, technically, are officially on the clock.
With the 41- 17 loss to the Bears on Sunday and with the Jets toppling the Browns 23- 16, Jacksonville officially has secured the rights to the No. 1 overall selection in the 2021 NFL draft.
If the Jaguars win their game next week against the Colts and if the Jets lose to the Patriots, both teams would finish with 2- 14 records. Jacksonville would hold the top spot in the draft due to a tiebreaker on strength of schedule.
That would allow the Jaguars to potentially draft Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, should he declare for the draft. Widely seen as the top prospect should he declare, he has the Tigers in the College Football Playoff, where he is set to face off against Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day.
The Jaguars have never had the top pick in the draft.
