MAKING WAVES SARAH KATE ELLIS

Representation of LGBTQ characters will slightly decrease on broadcast TV this year, from 10.2% to 9.1%, according to GLAAD’s latest annual “Where Are We on TV” report, which takes into account the 2020- 2021 television season. This is the first time there’s been such a decrease since the 2013- 2014 season. “There’s going be a lot written about the coronavirus and how that’s affected a lot of things, and I do believe that has been a player here,” GLAAD CEO Sarah Kate Ellis tells USA TODAY. While she’s relieved it didn’t drop further, she doesn’t consider the pandemic an excuse to skirt by representation goals, either.
