Don’t founder on Popeyes’ Cajun Flounder Sandwich
Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is releasing a different kind of sandwich before Lent.
The fast- food, New Orleans- style chicken chain announced that the Cajun Flounder Sandwich will be available in restaurants and for delivery nationwide starting Thursday. It costs $ 4.49.
Popeyes said the fish sandwich is similar to its popular fried chicken sandwich, which debuted in August 2019 and started the Chicken Sandwich War. The fried filet is served on the same buttery toasted brioche bun with pick
les as the poultry sandwich.
Ash Wednesday is Feb. 17 and marks the start of Lenten season. Several restaurants annually aim to reel in customers who observe with a smorgasbord of seafood specials.
The fish fare is most prevalent on the Fridays leading up to Easter, when many Catholics forgo meat. Lent is a six- week period of fasting, self- sacrifice and prayer observed by Christians each year to prepare for the celebration of Easter, when they believe Christ rose from the dead.
Last year, Popeyes promoted a Buttermilk Biscuit Shrimp meal for Lent.
“After seeing the response to our Chicken Sandwich in 2019, we are excited to deliver yet another delicious sandwich to our fans that is sure to reset industry standards,” Sami Siddiqui, president of Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen for the Americas, said in a news release.
Popeyes offers “Sandwich Insurance” Thursday for the launch, which costs 15 cents. It can be added through the restaurant’s app.
“For guests who order the new Cajun Flounder Sandwich and don’t like it, Popeyes will replace it with the tried and true Chicken Sandwich for free with purchase of insurance on launch day,” the company said.
Though the sandwich officially launches Thursday, it was listed Wednesday on the Popeyes website.
