Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, coach Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs were back in the Super Bowl for the third time in four years Sunday, looking to win their second championship together and third as a franchise.

Their opponent was the upstart Philadelphia Eagles, whose rebuilding effort behind third- year quarterback Jalen Hurts and second- year coach Nick Sirianni have the franchise back in the big game for the first time in five years.

Chiefs players Nick Allegretti, Mecole Hardman welcome babies

Just playing in the big game is already memorable enough, but two members of the Chiefs will have even more reason to remember this Super Bowl Sunday.

While he was busy preparing to face off against the Eagles, Chiefs guard Nick Allegretti learned his wife, Christina, went into labor and delivered healthy twin girls early Sunday morning in Chicago, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

At about the same time the Allegretti girls were arriving, Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman was frantically tweeting that his girlfriend, Chariah Gordon, was also about ready to give birth.

“OMG HER WATER BROKE,” Hardman said in a tweet posted at 3: 40 a. m. MT.

There could also be another Super Bowl baby before long on the other sideline.

Eagles center Jason Kelce and his wife, Kylie, are also expecting a baby. Kelce said they have two doctors with them at the Super Bowl in case she happens to go into labor.

Report: Colts target Eagles offensive coordinator as coach

The Indianapolis Colts have reached a decision on who they want as their next head coach – but the process will have to wait until after Super Bowl 57.

Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen is the Colts’ top choice, and, according to ESPN, the team has already begun informing the other candidates that they are no longer being considered.

Steichen, 37, has run the Eagles offense for the past two seasons. On the way to reaching the Super Bowl, Philadelphia ranked first in rushing yards and third in points per game in 2022. That would seem to mesh well with the Colts, whose offense revolves around 2021 NFL rushing champion Jonathan Taylor.

In addition, the Arizona Cardinals plan to interview Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon for their head coaching vacancy, according to NFL. com.

Eagles hired Vic Fangio to assist with SB prep

The Eagles reportedly brought in some veteran experience ahead of their Super Bowl 57 appearance against the Chiefs.

According to reports, the Eagles hired Vic Fangio to assist with game preparations that include self- scouting and analysis. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported Fangio signed a twoweek contract that is expected to expire after the Super Bowl.

Rapoport also mentioned that Fangio worked with the offensive unit during Super Bowl practices. Some of his tasks included providing knowledge of the Chiefs defense that he faced multiple times as the Denver Broncos head coach.

Fangio, 64, has several relationships on the Eagles staff. Rumors circulated that Fangio considered joining the Eagles in a consultant role. However, ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported that Fangio decided to spend time away from the gridiron.

Schefter also mentioned that Fangio would be in line to receive a Super Bowl ring if the Eagles beat the Chiefs.

Fangio agreed to become the Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator last month. He was a top target for Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel and will officially take the job after the Super Bowl.

Fangio will take over a Dolphins unit that ranked 18th in total defense. The Dolphins allowed 23.5 points per game and surrendered 337.8 total yards defensively.
