Toronto Blue Jays

Troy Tulowitzki has been a disappointment since coming to the Blue Jays last July (.229 average in 100 games through Sunday), but they’re hoping his recent hot streak is a sign that he’s back to his old self.

In his first 13 games after recovering from a right quad injury and coming off the disabled list, Tulowitzki hit .321 with six home runs and 14 RBI and reached base in all but one game. He went 3-for-5 Sunday against the Cleveland Indians with a three-run homer, which gave him a home run against every major league team.

“We knew he was a good player; he always has been,” manager

John Gibbons said after Toronto routed the Indians 17-1 a day after snapping their franchise-best 14-game winning streak.

“We always believed we would start to see that, and he’s playing really good. Even before he got hurt, he was starting to heat up, and then he picked it right back up after he came off the DL. His track record speaks for itself. When you accomplish all that, there’s a reason.”

Edwin Encarnacion finished June with a league-leading 30 RBI for the month, and then on July 1 he bumped umpire Vic Carapazza in an argument at home plate and subsequently was suspended for one game (he appealed). He is the fourth Toronto hitter with at least 30 RBI in June, joining Jose Bautista, Carlos Delgado and John Olerud.

After pitching an inning in the Blue Jays’ 19-inning loss to the Cleveland Indians on July 1, utility infielder Ryan Goins was placed on the DL because of right forearm tightness.
