QB Andrew Luck finally made his heavily anticipated preseason debut, completing all eight of his passes for 71 yards. Perhaps most important, he didn’t take any hits.
In his first game action since November, Luck even had two scrambles for 12 yards during his two series.
Luck split his completions evenly among Phillip Dorsett, Donte Moncrief and RB Robert Turbin with favorite target T.Y. Hilton nursing a strained hamstring. Expect a better sample size of Luck’s expectations Saturday when the Colts host the Philadelphia Eagles.
Rookie watch: Undrafted RB Josh Ferguson started to fizzle a bit against the Baltimore Ravens as he was held to 6 yards on five carries and made two catches for 13 yards. Ferguson has the inside track to earn the second-team job behind Frank Gore, but Turbin is coming on strong. … Undrafted WR Chester Rogers had five catches for 41 yards.
Noteworthy: The Colts’ signing of WR Andrew Opoku suggests they are looking for serious receiver depth in a hurry. Behind Hilton, Moncrief and Dorsett, the Colts haven’t gotten consistent production from their receivers in camp. … CB Vontae Davis did not play against Baltimore as he rested an ankle injury. … TE
Dwayne Allen has failed to distinguish himself after the departure of Coby Fleener, coughing up the ball for a costly fumble against Baltimore. … The Colts’ running game sputtered again with Gore in limited action. … After K Adam Vinatieri missed his first field goal attempt in game action since Week 2 of last season, P Pat McAfee tried a 62-yard field goal for the win as time expired.
