Chargers (6-2) at Raiders (1-7)
Sunday, 4:05 p.m. ET, Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, Oakland, California
TV: CBS
Danny Sheridan’s line: by 10
Chargers’ keys to victory: The Chargers should be able to find success on both sides of the ball as long as they play their game. QB Philip Rivers picked apart the Raiders defense in their last meeting, completing 22 of 27 passes for 339 yards and two scores, and the Raiders have taken a major step backward since then. The key to stopping the Raiders is to get pressure on QB Derek Carr. If the Chargers can tackle well and limit the Raiders’ big plays, they should have no problem turning this into a repeat of their routine victory over Oakland in Week 5.
Raiders’ keys to victory: The offensive line has to play better. QB Derek Carr was sacked seven times by the San Francisco 49ers last week and never seemed to feel comfortable in the pocket. If the Raiders can’t force teams to honor their deep passing game, their offense shuts down. On defense, the Raiders have to show more effort. Their tackling was abysmal in their lopsided loss to the 49ers.
Matchup to watch: Chargers DE Melvin Ingram vs. Raiders OT Kolton Miller. One of the biggest reasons for the Raiders’ lack of offense this season has been their poor line play. Miller, a rookie, has battled injuries, but his play has been subpar, too. Now he must face one of the best pass rushers in the league.
Who wins? The Chargers are a significantly better team and should have no problem repeating their Week 5 success. Expect the Raiders to hang around for a while but for the Chargers to pull away in the second half.
