Beware of NFL teams coming off OT
Week 13’s Chicago BearsNew York Giants game signaled the first overtime game in the NFL since Week 7. There have been 11 overtime games this season, including two games that ended in a tie. The Cleveland Browns have been involved in four extra-session contests this season.
According to ProFootballReference.com, there have 194 regular-season overtime games in the NFL dating to 2006. After playing an extra stanza, these teams have struggled in followup games, going just 160-213 SU (straight up) and 162-200-11 ATS (against the spread).
In addition, when these teams are coming off an overtime loss they dip to 74-104 SU and 72-101-5 ATS, including 1530-1 ATS during the final four weeks of the season. No matter how you look at it, Chicago appears to have a tough row to hoe in Week 14 when it hosts the Los Angeles Rams.
Stat of the week
The Indianapolis Colts are 16-1 SU and ATS behind QB Andrew Luck in games in which they own a winning percentage of better than .333 and are coming off a game in which the Colts failed to score 21 or more points.
