Be­ware of NFL teams com­ing off OT

Week 13’s Chicago BearsNew York Gi­ants game sig­naled the first over­time game in the NFL since Week 7. There have been 11 over­time games this sea­son, in­clud­ing two games that ended in a tie. The Cleve­land Browns have been in­volved in four ex­tra-ses­sion con­tests this sea­son.

Ac­cord­ing to ProFoot­bal­lRef­er­ence.com, there have 194 reg­u­lar-sea­son over­time games in the NFL dat­ing to 2006. Af­ter play­ing an ex­tra stanza, these teams have strug­gled in fol­lowup games, go­ing just 160-213 SU (straight up) and 162-200-11 ATS (against the spread).

In ad­di­tion, when these teams are com­ing off an over­time loss they dip to 74-104 SU and 72-101-5 ATS, in­clud­ing 1530-1 ATS dur­ing the final four weeks of the sea­son. No mat­ter how you look at it, Chicago ap­pears to have a tough row to hoe in Week 14 when it hosts the Los An­ge­les Rams.

Stat of the week

The In­di­anapo­lis Colts are 16-1 SU and ATS be­hind QB An­drew Luck in games in which they own a win­ning per­cent­age of bet­ter than .333 and are com­ing off a game in which the Colts failed to score 21 or more points.
