Beware of NFL teams coming off OT

Week 13’s Chicago BearsNew York Giants game signaled the first overtime game in the NFL since Week 7. There have been 11 overtime games this season, including two games that ended in a tie. The Cleveland Browns have been involved in four extra-session contests this season.

According to ProFootbal­lReference.com, there have 194 regular-season overtime games in the NFL dating to 2006. After playing an extra stanza, these teams have struggled in followup games, going just 160-213 SU (straight up) and 162-200-11 ATS (against the spread).

In addition, when these teams are coming off an overtime loss they dip to 74-104 SU and 72-101-5 ATS, including 1530-1 ATS during the final four weeks of the season. No matter how you look at it, Chicago appears to have a tough row to hoe in Week 14 when it hosts the Los Angeles Rams.

Stat of the week

The Indianapol­is Colts are 16-1 SU and ATS behind QB Andrew Luck in games in which they own a winning percentage of better than .333 and are coming off a game in which the Colts failed to score 21 or more points.
