TOP 5 PROSPECTS

- Chris Blessing

1. Jarred Kelenic, OF: The sixth overall draft pick in 2018, Kelenic has a promising bat and a simple, compact swing. Just 19, he should fill out and hit for power but is still a few years away. Kelenic hit .286 with six homers and 15 steals and looks ready for full-season Class A.

2. Justus Sheffield, LHP: Sheffield, 22, posted a 2.56 ERA in 88 innings at Class AAA last year. His slider took a step forward and his changeup fades well, but he struggles commanding his two-seam fastball that has solid arm-side run. He’ll have his shot to join Seattle’s rotation.

3. Justin Dunn, RHP: Dunn is the rare starter who was once a college reliever. The 23-year-old now has a good mix of pitches that includes a plus fastball, an improving changeup and a curveball/slider. He struck out 156 in 1351⁄3 innings across two levels and should return to Class AA to start 2019.

4. Julio Rodriguez, OF: Rodriguez, 18, had a big Dominican League debut with five home runs, 10 steals and a .315 batting average in 219 at-bats. He has tantalizing plus-plus power potential, solid bat-to-ball skills and advanced plate patience. The 18-year-old could play at fullseason Class A this season.

5. Logan Gilbert, RHP: Gilbert, 21, has a five-pitch arsenal headlined by a slider with plus-plus break and a twoseam fastball with sink. At 6-6, he is a lean build but should easily put on muscle. Gilbert missed his pro debut (mononucleosis) and will likely start at Class A.
