Where Harper’s deal ranks among biggest
Bryce Harper agreed to a 13year, $330 million deal — the biggest contract in North American sports history — with the Philadelphia Phillies.
His deal surpassed Giancarlo Stanton’s 13-year, $325 million extension he signed before the 2015 season with the Miami Marlins and comes on the heels of Nolan Arenado’s eight-year, $260 million extension with the Colorado Rockies and Manny Machado’s 10-year, $300 million deal with the San Diego Padres.
While Harper’s deal sets a new bar for total value, it didn’t break the record for highest annual average value at $25.4 million.
So how does Harper’s record deal stack up with the rest of baseball’s highest-paid players? Here are the top contracts by total value, per USA TODAY’s salary database and Cot’s Baseball Contracts.
