Redskins’ keys to victory: Don’t abandon the run. The Dolphins’ defense has been worn out on a weekly basis because the offense simply can’t sustain drives as the gap widens with the opposition. Washington should draw inspiration there and look to control the clock on offense, attempting to wear down Miami’s front. Washington should be able to generate movement and create gaps for RB Adrian Peterson, who hasn’t found much room to run this season.
Dolphins’ keys to victory: Make second-half adjustments. They have been competitive in each of their last three games, but only in the first half. Miami’s opponents have outscored them in the second half 81-0 through four games, which has allowed the opposition to rush QB Josh Rosen without worrying about the run.
Matchup to watch: Redskins’ interior defensive line vs. Dolphins’ interior offensive line. Jon Allen, DaRon Payne and Matt Ioaniddis have the potential to give the Dolphins’ offense fits with their ability to collapse the pocket and reset the line of scrimmage. Miami hasn’t had much luck running the ball, but the Redskins can really make a mess of Miami’s game plan if they’re able to push around C Daniel Kilgore and RG Evan Boehm.
Who wins? The Dolphins don’t have the firepower up front on either side of the line of scrimmage to deal with Washington’s physical group. Washington wins interim head coach Bill Callahan’s first game after Jay Gruden was fired.
