Lions’ keys to victory: Spread the ball around on offense, stay stingy defending the pass and force a few turnovers. QB Matthew Stafford has carved up the Packers in recent years. In fact, he’s riding a streak of seven consecutive games with a passer rating of at least 95 against Green Bay. On defense, the Lions must continue to make life difficult for opposing quarterbacks. While the secondary has given up yards, Detroit’s defense ranks in the NFL’s top 10 in completion percentage and passer rating.
Packers’ keys to victory: Establish the run game, limit big plays on defense and win the turnover battle. Detroit has allowed at least 100 rushing yards in all four games this season, and RB Aaron Jones ran for 107 yards and four touchdowns in the Week 5 victory over the Cowboys. The defense has allowed too many chunk plays through the first five games.
Matchup to watch: Lions RB Kerryon Johnson vs. Packers LB Blake Martinez. Can the Lions finally get Johnson going in the run game? It’ll be on Martinez, the Packers’ leader in tackles, to ensure it doesn’t happen. Something has to give. The Lions are averaging only 3.9 yards per carry to start the 2019 season, but Martinez and the Packers have been gashed consistently on the ground.
Who wins? Can the Lions win at Lambeau Field for the third straight season? A healthy Aaron Rodgers might have something to say about that. Expect a highly competitive battle between the NFC North rivals.
