Browns’ keys to victory: The Browns need to generate big plays. That means QB Baker Mayfield making good use of WR Odell Beckham Jr., who has a tough matchup with CB Stephon Gilmore. They also need to feed RB Nick Chubb, who is a big play waiting to happen. Cleveland’s defense, meanwhile, should be just as aggressive with blitzes on QB Tom Brady, who has been terrible when pressured this season.

Patriots’ keys to victory: The Patriots should keep racking up sacks at their impressive pace. LB Jamie Collins will have extra motivation to beat the Browns after they released him this offseason. Offensively, it’s likely the Patriots will let QB Tom Brady and WR Julian Edelman do their thing. Browns CB T.J. Carrie won’t be able to handle Edelman, and RB James White likely will be a matchup nightmare in the passing game.

Matchup to watch: Browns DE Myles Garrett vs. Patriots LT Marshall Newhouse. Coach Bill Belichick recently praised Newhouse for his ability to pick up the Patriots’ offense after joining them at midseason and becoming a starter. Newhouse replaced tackle Isaiah Wynn, who went on injured reserve, but Garrett will be a challenge. Newhouse hasn’t faced anyone in Garrett’s class.

Who wins? The Browns have shown flashes of potential to be the playoff team most thought they’d be. Still, Cleveland has not been consistent enough to instill confidence for a win in New England. The Patriots’ defense will stump Mayfield and company.
