Storyline of the week
Trevor Lawrence gets going: The Jaguars traded backup QB Gardner Minshew II to the Eagles for a conditional sixth-round pick. That decision came days after the Jags named No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence their starter. Lawrence proceeded to have his best game of the preseason, going 11-for-12 for 139 yards and two touchdowns. He also finished the game with a 154.5 rating. While Dallas played its backups, Lawrence was without over half of his starting line and top two receivers. “It’s all about execution,” Lawrence said, according to the Florida Times-Union. “We had a good game plan to where we did take some shots, but also getting the ball out of my hands, staying on the move.”
Rookie watch
Edge rusher Jordan Smith ,a fourth-round pick, had an active preseason. He registered nine total tackles, a quarterback hit, tackle for loss and pass deflection over the span of three games. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Jags make him a key part of the regular-season rotation.
