Bitten by the injury bug: Veteran WR T.Y. Hilton is expected to miss several games after dealing with discomfort in his neck. Hilton suffered the injury in practice before the preseason finale. Rookie QB Sam Ehlinger sprained his knee during the preseason finale and is expected to miss at least a month of games. QB Jacob Eason becomes potentially crucial with QB Carson Wentz, Pro Bowl center Ryan Kelly and starting WR Zach Pascal placed on the reserve/ COVID-19 list. A player who tests positive could miss up to 10 days, depending on vaccination status. In addition, OT Sam Tevi, expected to be depth on the offensive line, tore his ACL and MCL and will miss the season.
Rookie watch
As the Colts held out most of their starters in the preseason finale, undrafted rookie RB Deon Jackson shined. He took 10 carries for 81 rushing yards and a touchdown while adding a 3-yard receiving touchdown against the Lions. It may not be enough to make the roster, but Jackson likely solidified his case for the practice squad.
