KANSAS CITY
Storyline of the Week
14 personnel: Look for the Chiefs to carry four tight ends on the 53-man roster this season. Besides Travis Kelce, the team is very high on the trio of Blake Bell, Jody Fortson and rookie Noah Gray. Kansas City proved in preseason Week 3 against the Vikings it can effectively use them all on the field together, scoring on their lone 14 personnel look (four tight end) look. In 2016, head coach Andy Reid kept Kelce, Demetrius Harris, James O’Shaughnessy and Ross Travis on the 53-man roster. This group has looked decisively better than that unit.
Rookie watch
After a bit of a slow start, fourthround draft pick Joshua Kaindoh has begun to flash in extended playing time. It’s important for him to show given Kansas City’s newfound depth on the defensive line. He clearly has the physical tools at 6-foot-5, 258 pounds; he just hadn’t quite yet put it all together on the field. In the preseason finale, Kaindoh had two pressures and a fumble recovery in 57 defensive snaps.
