Barkley’s back: RB Saquon Barkley came back to practice. The 2018 Offensive Rookie of the Year took 7-on-7 reps during joint practices with the Patriots and surprised by jumping in 11on-11s. Coach Joe Judge remains coy on whether or not Barkley, who missed most of 2020 with a torn ACL, will play Week 1 against the Broncos, but he was pleased with how the back responded.
Rookie watch
Things are not looking good for the 2021 draft class. CB Aaron Robinson spent the entire preseason on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list and is likely to miss significant time, while LB Elerson Smith is in a similar boat. Although not on PUP, the fourth-round pick remains sidelined with an injury. WR Kadarius Toney also missed the entire preseason due to what the team calls “situations.” There is optimism building that he’ll be ready to play come Week 1, but his role will likely be very limited. Second-round pick Azeez Ojulari has also been battling injury issues and missed time during the final week of camp, as did CB Rodarius Williams.
