PHILADELPHIA
QB room gets new member: Despite Jalen Hurts being the clear starter at the quarterback position, Philadelphia added another player to the depth chart after trading for Jacksonville Jaguars backup Gardner Minshew. Minshew provides an intriguing dynamic. With Joe Flacco on a one-year contract, Minshew fits the mold of a solid backup and a guy who can efficiently play the position if something happens to Hurts. Minshew, 25, is 7-13 as an NFL starter but has thrown for 37 touchdowns against 11 interceptions in 23 games (20 starts). Minshew has thrown for 5,530 yards.
Rookie watch
RB Kenneth Gainwell has established himself as a young player to watch in the passing game and someone Nick Sirianni can turn to if Miles Sanders struggles. DeVonta Smith is the clear-cut No. 1 wide receiver and a guy aiming for a 1,000-yard season as a rookie. Landon Dickerson will likely start the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, while Milton Williams is firmly entrenched in the defensive line rotation.
