Jets (2-8) at Texans (2-8)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET, NRG Stadium, Houston
TV: CBS
Tipico Sportsbook line: Texans by 21⁄2
Jets’ keys to victory: The New York defense is still formidable, and DT Quinnen Williams has been able to generate interior pressure. Stopping the run will force Houston to play one-dimensional, which should give the Jets a chance to get after the quarterback. LB C.J. Mosley will need to make his presence felt and not let ball carriers produce at the second level. New York RB Michael Carter must get touches early, whether on the ground or through the air, to help move the offense.
Texans’ keys to victory: Houston has won the turnover battle and minimized penalties in its wins. QB Tyrod Taylor showed in Week 11 vs. the Titans he can protect the ball and also use his legs to supplement the running game in the red zone. The rush and cover have been successful for the past two games, and one of the more cohesive elements to the team. LBs Zach Cunningham and Kamu Grugier-Hill need to stop action in the flats and over the middle.
Matchup to watch: Texans WR Brandin Cooks vs. Jets CB Bryce Hall. The 2020 fifth-round pick from Virginia has emerged as one of New York’s better defensive backs. Cooks has 23 catches for 350 yards and a touchdown at home. Hall will need to keep Cooks in check and ensure he doesn’t ignite in front of the home crowd.
Who wins? The Texans have seemingly rediscovered their identity and are playing at home. Taylor and the Houston offense are clicking while the defense is still able to generate takeaways. Houston continues to win and hurt its draft positioning.
Texans, 26-17
