Cardinals’ keys to victory: Arizona head coach and former Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon returns to Philadelphia with a last-place record, a roster full of injured starters and questions about QB Kyler Murray’s future with the organization. WR Marquise Brown and CBs Garrett Williams and Bobby Price have missed recent games with injuries. Any hope for an upset victory starts with a big game for TE Trey McBride. Philadelphia has struggled to cover opposing tight ends, and McBride offers an intriguing matchup against a battered Eagles linebacker corps. On defense, Gannon’s defense will try to force QB Jalen Hurts into poor decisions with pressure.
Eagles’ keys to victory: Philadelphia enters this game on a short week after fighting off the Giants on Christmas Day. For Nick Sirianni’s team, it’ll be about again playing above the level of the competition and defeating a rebuilding team looking forward to the season’s end. The recipe for success starts with establishing the run game up front while taking advantage of mediocre cornerback play in the passing game with WRs DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown and TE Dallas Goedert.
Matchup to watch: Eagles QB Jalen Hurts vs. Gannon. The Eagles should be to run the ball, but this team lives to pass, and Gannon knows Hurts well, having spent two years as Philadelphia’s DC. Gannon will look to switch up coverage while bringing pressure to make Hurts uncomfortable.
Who wins? The Eagles are the much better team.
