-Well, this should be fun. NBC’s best comedy, Community (tonight, 8 ET/PT), goes all Pulp Fiction on us as Jeff plans a Pulp-inspired surprise party for Abed. And yes, as you’d expect, the real surprise is on Jeff.
-After Lee DeWyze’s desultory performance last week, American Idol (Fox, 8 ET/PT) reaches further back in the Idol pool for a scheduled visit from former finalist Jennifer Hudson. Not only is she a better singer and performer than DeWyze, she’s also proof that, if you’re talented enough, you don’t have to win Idol to use it as a launchpad. That should come as some comfort to the contestants.
-From Jennifer Hudson, who won an Oscar for the film Dreamgirls, move on to Loretta Devine, who played Lorell in the original Broadway version and returns tonight as Adele in Grey’s Anatomy (ABC, 9 ET/PT). It’s clear now that Adele should take part in Derek’s Alzheimer’s trial. But that doesn’t mean Adele is going to agree.
-Back in 2006, two NBC shows premiered with sort-of Saturday Night Live settings: Aaron Sorkin’s highly anticipated Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Tina Fey’s less-lauded 30 Rock (NBC, 10 ET/PT). We all know which one survived — and just to prove there’s no hard feelings, Sorkin guests tonight on the victor.
