No. 13 Michigan finally gets upper hand on Wisconsin

Tim Hardaway Jr. had 17 points and freshman Trey Burke outplayed Jordan Taylor for most of the game, leading No. 13 Michigan to a 59-41 victory Sunday against No. 19 Wisconsin in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Burke scored 14 points for the Wolverines (13-3, 3-1 Big Ten), who ended a 10-game losing streak against the Badgers. Taylor, Wisconsin’s star point guard, was held to 12 points, a majority of which came after Michigan had taken control.

The Badgers (12-5, 1-3) have lost three in a row.

No. 12 Indiana 88, Penn State 82: Jordan Hulls hit seven of the visiting Hoosiers’ season-high 16 three-pointers to help them end a 16-game Big Ten road losing streak.

Hulls, a 6-0 guard, had a career-high 28 points for Indiana (15-1, 3-1 Big Ten), which had not won a Big Ten regular-season game away from home since Jan. 21, 2010, also against Penn State.

Tianna Hawkins scored on a put-back with 1:49 left in overtime to help visiting No. 5 Maryland beat No. 23 North Carolina 78-72. Hawkins gave the Terrapins (16-0, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) a 73-72 lead, and they pulled away from there. Alyssa Thomas had 24 points for Maryland, including a reverse layup as regulation time expired. Chay Shegog led UNC (12-3, 2-1) with 20 points. ... Richa Jackson had a career-high 19 points to help host No. 6 Duke beat North Carolina State 83-59. Tricia Liston added 14 points and a career-high 11 rebounds for the Blue Devils (12-2, 3-0 ACC), who had six players score in double figures. . . . Glory Johnson had her fifth doubledoub­le in a row with 15 points and 14 rebounds as No. 6 Ten- nessee (12-3, 3-0) opened with a 25-3 run en route to its 36th consecutiv­e Southeaste­rn Conference victory, 69-38 at Arkansas. . . . Briefly:

Towson set a Division I men’s record Saturday with its 35th consecutiv­e loss, a 75-38 defeat at Old Dominion. The Tigers (0-16 this season) broke a tie with Sacramento State, which lost 34 in a row from 1997 to 1999. Towson has not won a game since Dec. 29, 2010. ... Jeff Jordan, oldest son of Michael Jordan, is leaving Central Florida for what he said were “personal reasons,” the school announced Saturday night. It did not provide details. Jordan’s younger brother, Marcus Jordan, a junior, remains on the team. Jeff Jordan, a senior, averaged 2.7 points in 13 games this season.
