Shooting percentage down in domes
USA TODAY analyzed shooting percentages for teams playing in domes during the NCAA tournament. While the higher caliber of competition also must be taken into account as teams advance, conspicuous drops in shooting percentages in games played in made-for-football domes underscore questions about the impact of the more spacious settings. Some findings:
18:
Kansas senior Tyshawn Taylor’s consecutive misfires from beyond the arc, in six NCAA games dating to 2009.
10:
Number of teams that played in domed arenas in the tournament’s last three weeks.
10:
Number of teams that shot worse behind the line in domed arenas in the tournament the last three weeks than they did in earlier tournament games in non-domes.
8:
Number of games in domes in this tournament — in Atlanta, St. Louis and New Orleans.
30%:
Teams have hit a little less than this number on their threepoint attempts in eight domed games (down from a collective 35% during the regular season and 41% in non-dome tournament games).
53%:
Kentucky’s shooting percentage in its three domed games.
11 of 26:
Number of threepointers Kentucky made in its three domed games.
