Chavez Jr. to defend middleweig­ht title

Undefeated middleweig­ht champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will face top-rated contender Andy Lee on June 16 in El Paso. The World Boxing Council fight is expected to be televised by HBO. The winner is likely to fight Sergio Martinez in September.

-P-erto Rico’s Profession­al Boxing Commission on Tuesday suspended the license of former WBO featherwei­ght champion Juan Manuel Lopez for one year for criticizin­g a referee after his loss March 10 to Mexico’s Orlando Salido. Lopez also was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine and provide 100 hours of community service. Lopez, who previously said a suspension would force him into early retirement, has 20 days to appeal. After losing by technical knockout to Salido for a second time, Lopez had accused referee Roberto Ramirez of betting on the fight. Lopez has asked for for-

giveness and said he did not recall what he said or did after the fight until he saw a video the following day. Lopez is 31-2 with 28 KOS.

Tigers place Inge on 15-day disabled list

The Detroit Tigers placed infielder Brandon Inge on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin. Inge had been trying to earn regular playing time after hitting .197 in 2011 and was attempting to move from third base to second

moved Miguel Cabrera to third. -Cleveland Indians pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez is appealing his five-game suspension. He requested an appeal Tuesday of his ban for intentiona­lly throwing at the Colorado Rockies’ Troy Tulowitzki during a spring training game Sunday. Major League Baseball suspended and fined Jimenez on Monday. He is scheduled to start Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays.
